Ethical shopping is now established
ALMOST twothirds of consumers now consider ethical issues when shopping, even when using a supermarket for convenience.
More than one in ten take ethical factors into consideration when taking a trip down the high street (14 per cent), shopping online (17 per cent), or thinking about a major purchase, such as a car or holiday (14 per cent).
But in a supermarket 35 per cent make an ethical decision when buying coffee, 34 per cent do so when buying eggs and 31 per cent for tea.
With the recent government calls for a reduction in plasticbag consumption, the findings also highlight the ethical topic of most concern for consumers is the use of plastic bags (52 per cent).
The top ethical concerns:
1. Use of plastic bags
2. Fairtrade issues
3. Animal testing for cosmetics
4. Climate change
5. Energy ratings of household appliances
