Tesco takes the people's top title
TESCO has been named "Consumers’ Favourite Retailer" at the Retail Week awards for the second year running. The superchain topped a poll carried out by leading market information provider TNS Worldpanel.
About 15,000 consumer panellists were asked to nominate their favourite shop in eight categories, as well as their overall favourite. Tesco won the overall favourite category with 14.4 per cent of consumers voting for the retailer, while Asda and M&S came in second and third place respectively to repeat last year’s top three.
Tim Danaher, editor of Retail Week, said: "Tesco has been under pressure this year from those who feel it’s become too big. But this poll reflects that the people who really matter – the shoppers themselves – still rate it highly, and that’s why it’s such a successful business."
The surprise climber this year is Amazon, which leaped up into 5th place from 21st last year and was voted top by men under 35.
