FIRST Minister Alex Salmond will today urge US businesses to invest in Scotland.

Mr Salmond, who is in America for Scotland Week, will make the call during a speech at Harvard University in Massachusetts.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Salmond said: "Our ambition is to build a ’Celtic Lion’ economy – a new economic powerhouse in the 21st century.

"There are major changes and challenges under way in the global economy – but Scotland is responding to those changes and has a strategy for success.

"Against the backdrop of an economic downturn, the Scottish Government will this week deliver tax cuts which will benefit council taxpayers and 120,000 small businesses across Scotland, lowering their fixed costs and allowing them to grow and compete."

The First Minister added: "I believe that prospects for a resumption of growth are strong and I urge US businesses to invest in Scotland’s Celtic Lion economy."
