Scotland to host financial first
A WEEKLONG event which will "cement Scotland’s position as a leading centre of the international financial services industry" is to be held in May.
Some of the "world’s most respected experts in international finance" will attend the inaugural global financial services conference in Edinburgh.
The event is being organised by the Financial Services Advisory Board (FiSAB), a collaboration between the financial services industry, unions, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Universities Scotland.
Speaking after a meeting of the FiSAB yesterday, the finance secretary, John Swinney, said the government was "determined to retain a competitive edge" to attract companies to in Scotland. He said the week of events would "focus world attention on what Scotland has to offer ....and the further development of the Scottish financial services industry".
John Campbell, chairman of Scottish Financial Enterprise, said this was the first time a country had held such an event.
