Hope for under-threat repair jobs
Employees at the Wood Group’s Dundee plant have been told many of their jobs could be saved.
The firm announced in December that it would be closing its Baldovie factory, where gas turbines are repaired, with the loss of 150 posts.
However it is now in negotiation with Kentbased Aerospace Tooling about transferring certain contracts and product lines.
If the deal goes ahead about 65 people could continue working at the site.
Even if the transfer falls through, 20 people will be retained at the Wood Group dealing with global issues.
’Great Opportunity’
A Wood Group spokeswoman said: "As Aerospace Tooling plans to bring additional work to the facility there will be additional employee retention opportunities which will also be the subject of individual consultation.
"Aerospace Tooling will lease space in the existing Wood Groupowned property and will be colocated with employees already identified as remaining with Wood Group supporting other global operations and central functions.
"Wood Group continues to make every effort to minimise redundancies and believes Aerospace Tooling provides a great opportunity for a significant number of our workforce and continued operations in Dundee."
Dundee East SNP MP, Stewart Hosier, said: "I was pleased to learn that the number of potential redundancies had already been mitigated by 20 which was good news.
"However, the best news was that negotiations were proceeding with Aerospace Tooling on the takeover of the Dundee plant."
