Highlands set for £22m lift from flights
UP TO £22 million will be injected into the Highland economy annually as a result of new air services, it was claimed yesterday.
Eastern Airways flies services from Inverness to Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Southampton; EasyJet flies to Bristol and Ryanair to Nottingham.
Flybe, which already flies an InvernessBelfast service, will add routes to Birmingham, Exeter, Manchester and Southampton this year.
Highlands Loch Ness Marketing say an extra 100,000 people are expected to land at Inverness when the new routes start. Nicol Manson, its chairman, said: "The new flights are tremendous news."
The report comes weeks after it was announced that the only air connection, provided by the airline Bmi, between the Highlands and Heathrow is to be scrapped.
