Club revamps its plans for golf and hotel complex
A FRESH attempt is to be made to create a major new golf development in East Lothian.
The plan is for a 100bedroom hotel, 21 holiday lodges, 42 homes and an 18hole course alongside the Whitekirk Golf and Country Club course, near North Berwick.
The club is behind the proposed £15 million development, which it claims will create around 150 fulltime jobs.
An initial scheme was rejected in June – against the advice of East Lothian Council’s own planning officers – amid fears about the environmental impact of the development and following more than 100 objections.
However, the club is to submit a fresh planning application to the council within weeks.
The changes include an overhaul of the design of the proposed hotel, reducing the number of homes from 50 to 42, and the planting of up to 30,000 trees to reduce the aesthetic impact of the new buildings.
