Young people use web for careers guidance
Websites are the first port of call for young adults searching for guidance on their future careers, a new poll has revealed.
According to figures from YouthNet, those aged 16 to 25 years old will turn to the internet above any other type of careers advice.
The majority of respondents (81 per cent) said the web was the most helpful, while 62 per cent would go to their parents for help on choosing a suitable career path.
Finally, 54 per cent will turn to their university or school careers service.
Figures from Just IT Recruitment recently unearthed this trend, finding that only four per cent of respondents in its poll will look to a university careers service for guidance, Online Recruitment magazine reported.
Chief executive of YouthNet Fiona Dawe remarked that such decisions can influence the rest of person’s life.
She said: "This research highlights the importance of providing careers advice to young people which is credible and accessible."
