Find Retail jobsSouth Lanarkshire is set to receive a jobs boost as supermarket giant Asda has proposed plans to build a 60,000 sq ft site in the area.

A bid to build a new outlet on the Queensway in East Kilbride will see 20 million pound of investment into the town, with 350 full and parttime retail jobs likely to be created, the BBC reports.

Asda property communications manager for Scotland Philip Bartram commented that the firm was excited about the plans.

Our proposals will provide choice on where to carry out a supermarket shop and bring Asda’s famous low prices to the people of East Kilbride, he said to the news source.

East Kilbride councillor John Anderson remarked to the BBC Scotland that the development is set to change the face of the brown field site the store is expected to be built on.

Asda, owned by US firm Wal Mart, was recently presented with the Multiple Environmental Retailer of the Year honour at the Retail Industry Awards.
